Troy Noboru Hashimoto is a Democratic State Senator representing District 5 in Hawaii, covering Wailuku, Kahului, Waihee, Waikapu Mauka, and Waiehu on Maui. Born on September 21, 1987, in Kula, Hawaii, he is a fifth-generation Maui native who has focused his career on local policy, housing, education, and budgetary issues. Notable achievements include sponsoring House Bill 1376 in 2021 to phase out the eviction moratorium post-pandemic through tenant-landlord mediation; securing funding for Maui Memorial Medical Center and public schools; graduating from the Council of State Governments – West Leadership Academy in 2021; and receiving the CSG 20 under 40 award in 2024. He currently serves as Assistant Majority Whip and Vice-Chair of the Housing Committee, with membership on Ways and Means, Education, and Higher Education committees.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Earned a bachelor’s degree and Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver.
• Early Roles: Served nearly eight years as executive assistant to Maui County Council Chair Mike White, handling policy and budgets; chaired the Maui County Democratic Party for four years; sat on the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party; and was a member of the Hawaii State Board of Education .
• Legislative Career: Appointed by Governor David Ige in April 2018 to the Hawaii House to complete Joseph M. Souki's term; elected to the House in 2018, reelected in 2020 and 2022. Appointed by Governor Josh Green in November 2023 to the State Senate to fill Gilbert Keith-Agaran's vacancy.
