Biography
Tri Ta, a Republican, represents California's 70th Assembly District, which includes Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Los Alamitos, Midway City, Rossmoor, Stanton, Westminster, and portions of Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, and Seal Beach in Orange County's Little Saigon area.
Born on April 10, 1973, in Saigon, Vietnam, Ta immigrated to the United States as a refugee with his family seeking political freedom. He is married with two daughters and became the first Vietnamese-American elected mayor in the United States when he served as Mayor of Westminster, California, in 2012. Previously, he was elected to the Westminster City Council in 2006 and served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2008. Elected to the State Assembly in November 2022, he won re-election in 2024 with 54.7% of the vote. Notable positions include fiscal conservatism, opposition to defunding the police, support for middle-class tax cuts, and efforts to end daylight saving time changes.
