Biography
Harold L. "Trey" Stewart III, a Republican, represents Senate District 2 in the Maine Senate, covering parts of southern Aroostook County and northern Penobscot County, including Presque Isle, his hometown. Born February 7, 1994, he is a fifth-generation Aroostook County native, grandson of former Representative Harold “Bud” Stewart, and son of Superior Court Justice Hal Stewart. Notable achievements include serving as the youngest member of the Maine Legislature, Senate Minority Leader since 2022 , and prior roles as Assistant Minority Leader in the House . He serves as a U.S. Navy reservist and former volunteer firefighter.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Graduated from Presque Isle High School ; earned a BA in political science and sociology and MBA from the University of Maine; graduated from University of Maine School of Law and admitted to the Maine State Bar.
Political Experience: Elected to Maine House , serving on Education and Cultural Affairs, Taxation committees, and Opioid Task Force; elected to Maine Senate ; Senate Republican Lead on Energy, Utilities, and Technology and Health Coverage, Insurance, and Financial Services committees.
