Biography
Senator Trey Paradee ** represents Delaware's **17th Senate District, which includes the City of Dover and the towns of Camden and Wyoming. Born William Charles "Trey" Paradee III on July 18, 1969, and raised in Dover, he is a Democrat first elected to the Delaware State Senate in 2018 after serving three terms in the Delaware House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018. Notable achievements include sponsoring campaign finance reform for greater transparency, expanding the Inspire Scholarship for tuition at Delaware State University, chairing the Joint Finance Committee to pass a $5.1 billion state budget, and advocating for gun violence reduction, reproductive rights, environmental protection, and support for educators and working families. He serves as Senate chair of the Joint Finance Committee, vice-chair of Banking, Business & Insurance, and member of Environment & Energy, Agriculture, and Veterans Affairs committees.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a BA in English and MBA from the University of Delaware, attending evening classes while raising his family.
- Professional Background: Worked at his family's Paradee Gas Co. after college; became a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch , opened an Edward Jones office , and founded Paradee Financial LLC , advising small businesses and families on savings.
- Community Involvement: Served on boards for Boy Scouts of America, Delaware Technical Community College Educational Foundation, Downtown Dover Partnership, and Inner-City Cultural League; coached youth lacrosse .
- Personal Life: Lives in Dover with wife Meghan and children Cassie, Charlie, and Isla; family pets include Labrador Retrievers and a French Bulldog. Enjoys traveling and scuba diving.
