Biography

Trent Kelly is a Republican U.S. Representative for Mississippi's 1st congressional district, serving since winning a special election in 2015. Born on March 1, 1966, in Union, Mississippi, to John and Barbara Kelly, he resides in Saltillo with his wife Sheila and their three children. A retired major general from the Mississippi Army National Guard after 39 years of service, including deployment for Desert Storm, he has earned awards such as two Bronze Stars, the Soldier's Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. Notable positions include Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee's Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Graduated from Union High School ; associate's degree from East Central Community College; bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Mississippi; master's in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College .
• Political Experience: Worked in private law practice and as Tupelo city prosecutor; elected District Attorney for Mississippi's 1st Judicial District , prosecuting felonies across seven counties; elected to Congress in 2015 special election runoff.
