Biography

Representative Trent Ashby

Trent Ashby is a Republican representative in the Texas House of Representatives, serving District 9, which encompasses Angelina, Houston, Polk, San Augustine, Trinity, and Tyler counties, including the city of Lufkin.

Ashby grew up on a dairy farm and diversified livestock operation in Rusk County, Texas, where he developed a strong work ethic through agricultural work alongside his father. Throughout his youth, he was actively involved in livestock showing and competed in calf roping on the Texas High School Rodeo Circuit. He was highly engaged in 4-H and FFA, achieving leadership roles as President of 4-H and Vice-President of FFA at the state level. He graduated from Henderson High School and was later named one of their distinguished alumni in 2014.

Education

Ashby holds a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University . While at Texas A&M, he was elected to the Student Senate, served as Class Treasurer, and was named Senior Yell Leader. He remains actively involved with his alma mater through the Texas A&M Letterman's Association and Association of Former Students.

Political Experience

Ashby was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2012 and was sworn in during January 2013. During his first session, he was recognized as Freshman of the Year by his Republican Caucus colleagues. After his second term, he was selected as the Most Valuable Sophomore by Capitol Inside.

Prior to his election to the Legislature, Ashby served as President of the Lufkin Independent School District Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2012.

Currently, Ashby serves as Chair of the Select Committee on Academic and Career-Oriented Education and holds memberships on the House Committee on Culture, Recreation & Tourism, and the House Transportation Committee. Throughout his tenure, he has also served on committees including Appropriations, Administration, Calendars, Defense & Veterans' Affairs, Natural Resources, and Public Education.

Before entering politics, Ashby worked as President of a regional title company and served as the first Executive Director of the Texas Forest Country Partnership. He currently holds the position of Senior Vice President for VeraBank in Lufkin, Texas.
