Biography
Treneé McGee is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing District 116, which includes parts of New Haven and West Haven. She assumed office on December 22, 2021, following a special election after the resignation of the previous representative, becoming the youngest Black woman ever elected to the Connecticut General Assembly and the youngest woman currently serving in the Connecticut House. McGee serves as Democratic Deputy Majority Leader and was previously Assistant Majority Leader. Notable achievements include founding TDM Productions & Acting Studio in 2020 to support emerging artists, serving as a Whole Life advocate for women and families, and joining the board of Pro-Black, Pro-Life in 2021; she identifies as a member of Dems for Life and has opposed certain abortion expansion measures.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Marymount Manhattan College, with a certificate from The Umbra Institute in Perugia, Italy.
- Early Career: Began performing in TV commercials at age 3; worked as a teaching artist with Long Wharf Theatre; founded F.I.R.S.T. .
- Political Experience: Served as the youngest member of the West Haven City Council prior to her state role; elected in special election in 2021; re-elected in 2024.
