Representative Travis Simms

Political Party: Democratic

District: Connecticut House District 140

Residence: Norwalk, Connecticut

Travis Simms was born and raised in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was inspired to serve the public by long-time Norwalk politician and civic leader Otha Brown Jr. Simms does not consider himself a career politician but is driven to serve and give back to his community. His mission remains focused on fighting for a better quality of life for all residents of Norwalk, with particular emphasis on health, safety, and community stabilization.

Political Experience

Simms began his political involvement in 2008 as a volunteer for the Democratic Party in Norwalk. His first electoral success came with his election to the Democratic Town Committee representing District B, followed by a successful run for the Norwalk Common Council in 2009, where he represented South Norwalk.

At the state level, Simms has served as a Connecticut House Representative since 2019 and currently holds the position of Assistant Deputy Speaker. During his tenure on the Common Council, he served on the Health, Welfare and Public Safety, Planning, and Ordinance committees, and later on Finance/Claims, Public Works, and the Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs committees.

Notable Achievements

Simms has focused on infrastructure and public safety improvements, including working to fix roads, sidewalks, and public stairwells in his district. He secured funding for designated walk and bike lanes throughout Norwalk and aided in negotiations with the United States Tennis Association to rebuild existing tennis courts and add two regulation-sized courts at Springwood/Nathaniel Ely Park.

He supported a $460,000 special capital appropriation to expand the Norwalk Public Library. Moving forward, Simms has committed to increasing state funding for education reform, improving aging infrastructure, and strengthening housing policies and programs.
