Biography
Travis Hendrix is a Democratic representative for Alabama House District 55 in Birmingham. Born on October 15, 1982, in Birmingham's Ensley neighborhood, he grew up in the Tuxedo Court public housing community . He is a sergeant and community project coordinator with the Birmingham Police Department, where he has served as a school resource officer and on a public housing task force. Hendrix is married to Crystal, a father, and an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Notable achievements include winning a special election in October 2023 for District 55 after former Rep. Fred Plump's resignation, defeating opponents in the primary and runoff with over 65% of the vote, backed by endorsements from Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels, and former Mayor Richard Arrington Jr. His priorities focus on economic growth for minority- and women-owned businesses and increased education investment.
