Biography
Travis Clardy
Travis Paul Clardy was born on January 13, 1962, in East Texas. He is an attorney from Nacogdoches, Texas, and a lifelong Republican who raised four sons with his wife, Judy. Active in his community, Clardy served on the Executive Board of the East Texas Boy Scouts and as a former president of the Nacogdoches County Bar Association. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Nacogdoches Rotary Club and a member of the Dean's Circle for the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts. Clardy and his wife are active members of the North Street Church of Christ.
Education
Clardy received his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Pepperdine University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law before all state and federal courts in Texas, as well as the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court, with over 30 years of experience in civil litigation.
Political Experience
Clardy served as a Republican state representative for Texas House District 11 from January 8, 2013, to January 14, 2025. During his tenure, he served on multiple committees including the House Committee on Higher Education, the House Committee on International Relations and Economic Development, the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, the Elections Committee, and the Texas Sunset Commission, among others.
In 2018, Clardy ran for Speaker of the Texas House but did not prevail. He received the Law & Order Award from the Texas District and County Attorneys Association for his work on prosecuting the manufacture and sale of synthetic drugs. His legislative record earned recognition from the Texas Municipal Police Association, Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals, Texas Press Association, and the Texas Hospital Association for his advocacy on law enforcement, rural healthcare, and constitutional rights.
Clardy lost his reelection bid in the March 2024 Republican primary runoff to Joanne Shofner, receiving 37% of the vote compared to Shofner's 63%. His loss followed his opposition to Governor Abbott's school voucher legislation in 2023.
