Biography
Tou Xiong is a member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 44 as a member of the *Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party *. Born around 1989 or 1990, he is Hmong-American, the oldest of eight children, with parents who were refugees from Laos. He resides in Maplewood and serves counties including Ramsey and Washington, covering inner-ring suburbs north and east of Saint Paul.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Tartan High School; earned a B.A. in Economics from St. Cloud State University; received a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.
- Professional Background: Worked as an urban planning organizer for the Harrison Neighborhood Association, legislative clerk for the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, and roles with Minnesota Legal Aid and the Public Health Law Center. Served as a trustee on the Ramsey County Library board and member of the Senate DFL District 53 executive committee. Currently, nonprofit executive director.
- Political Career: Elected to the Maplewood City Council in 2014. Served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for District 53A from 2019 to 2022 . Elected to the Minnesota Senate for District 44 in 2022, currently in his first term.
