Biography
Francis "Topper" McFaun is a Republican who represented the Washington-Orange district in the Vermont House of Representatives. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he moved to Barre Town, Washington County, Vermont, in 1967 and resided at 97 Sunset Rd., Barre Town, VT 05641. A retired Vermont state government employee after 38-39 years in leadership positions, he also served in the Army Reserve and National Guard from 1964-1972. Married to Mary, he has two daughters and one son. McFaun was a longtime community leader, serving as past president and board member of the Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation, board member emeritus of the Barre Area Development Corp., member emeritus of the Central Vermont Workforce Investment Board and Community National Bank Advisory Board, past member of the Barre Town Selectboard and School Board, and past member of the People’s Health & Wellness Clinic Board. He served in the Vermont House from 2005 through 2026, including as vice chair of the House Health Care Committee and ranking member of the House Committee on Human Services. McFaun resigned on April 3, 2026, to focus on family responsibilities after more than two decades of service.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Attended St. Peters Elementary School and Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts; earned a BS in education from Boston University in 1963; completed graduate courses at Boston College, Harvard University, and the University of Vermont.
Political Experience: Elected to the Vermont House in 2004, serving continuously through the 2025-2026 session in Washington-2 and then Washington-Orange districts as Seat Number 5. Notable roles included vice chair of the House Health Care Committee and ranking member of the House Committee on Human Services.
