Biography
Tony Exum Sr. is a Democratic member of the Colorado Senate, representing District 11 in El Paso County, which includes all or parts of Colorado Springs, Cimarron Hills, and Stratmoor. A longtime resident of Southeast Colorado Springs for over 60 years, he served 35 years as a firefighter with the Colorado Springs Fire Department, retiring in 2010 as a Battalion Chief. Elected to the Senate in 2022 after winning the Democratic nomination against Yolanda Avila, he continues advocating for students, low-income families, people of color, the elderly, first responders, military veterans, and District 11 residents.
Notable achievements include passing legislation in the House to prevent PFAS chemical contamination in public waters, fund driving lessons for foster youth, raise pay for National Guard members on emergency duty, and provide rental/mortgage assistance for those impacted by COVID-19. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Local Government & Housing Committee and a member of the Transportation & Energy Committee.
