Biography
Toni Edmonds Walker is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing District 93 since 2001. A longtime resident of New Haven with deep community roots, she is a seasoned social activist advocating for youth, education, human rights, and juvenile justice reform, including championing legislation to raise the age of juvenile jurisdiction for 16- and 17-year-olds.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a baccalaureate degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Fordham University.
- Professional Experience: Worked as Coordinator of Special Services and Grants for New Haven Adult Education; Fundraiser/Director for the Dixwell Children’s Creative Arts Center; Bank Marketer with Fleet Bank.
- Political Roles: Serves as House Chair of the Appropriations Committee and member of the Judiciary Committee; former House Chair of the Human Services Committee. Created and chaired the Juvenile Jurisdiction Planning and Implementation Committee and the Juvenile Jurisdiction Policy and Operations Coordinating Council. Member of organizations including the CT Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, Adolescent Parenting Council, and Women's Leadership Forum Executive Committee. Won re-election in 2024.
