Biography
Tommy Vitolo is a Democratic state representative for the 15th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, serving Brookline precincts 2-4 and 6-13 since January 2019. He previously succeeded Frank Smizik and won re-election, including a fourth term as noted in recent campaigns. An energy consultant by profession, Vitolo is married to Jennifer Taranto since 2004 and has two children. Notable roles include Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Election Laws, and membership on the Joint Committees on Elder Affairs and Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development, plus the House Committee on Steering, Policy, and Scheduling. He has authored nine local bills on topics like clean energy, education, diversity, and public health, and supported overrides for school renovations and town services.
Education and Political Experience
Vitolo holds a BS from North Carolina State University, an MS from Dublin City University, and a PhD from Boston University. His political career began with election to Brookline Town Meeting in 2007 and service as Constable since 2010, where he volunteered for community efforts like the Brookline Community Foundation renovation and Rotary fundraisers, and aided dozens of local bills and budget items. Elected to the state House in 2018, he continues as Brookline's progressive voice, passing statewide progressive legislation and securing state resources for the district.
