Tom Young, Jr. is a Republican state senator representing District 24 in South Carolina, covering large portions of Aiken County including Aiken, North Augusta, Warrenville, Gloverville, Couchton, New Ellenton, Jackson, Beech Island, and Windsor. Born on October 8, 1971, in Aiken, South Carolina, he is the son of Thomas R. Young, Sr., and Delly O. Young, married to Heather Winkles since 2001, with two children. As an attorney and business owner, Young has served in the South Carolina State Senate since 2013 and previously in the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2012. Notable achievements include chairing the Aiken County Legislative Delegation, leading efforts to secure $168.85 million from the state's SRS Plutonium Settlement for Aiken County infrastructure, and receiving statewide recognition for restructuring state government, shortening the legislative session, improving education, supporting veterans, and reforming child protective services. He currently chairs the Senate Family and Veterans' Services Committee and serves on committees including Finance, Education, Fish, Game and Forestry, Legislative Oversight, and Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as the South Carolina Governor's Nuclear Advisory Commission and Savannah River Maritime Commission.
