Biography

Tom Umberg is a Democratic State Senator representing California's 34th District, which includes north central Orange County and parts of Long Beach. Born on September 25, 1955, he is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, former federal prosecutor, and Deputy Drug Czar under President Bill Clinton. Notable achievements include authoring SB 450 , which enabled converting hotels into homeless housing and inspired Governor Newsom's Project Homekey; chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee; serving as a Judicial Council of California Trustee since 2020; authoring 76 laws in the Assembly and 17 in the Senate; and securing over $563 million in funds for Orange County. He is married to retired Brigadier General Robin Umberg and has three children.
