Biography
Tom O'Dell Smith is a Republican representative for Kentucky's 86th House district, which includes Knox County and part of Laurel County. He has served since January 2021, after previously representing the district from 1991 to 1993 until resigning following an extortion conviction, for which he served 27 months in prison. A small business owner and consultant from Corbin, Kentucky, he won the 2024 Republican primary with 63% of the vote and was unopposed in the general election. Notable committee roles include Vice Chair of Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations; member of Transportation, Natural Resources & Energy, Banking & Insurance, and Legislative Oversight & Investigations; and liaison to the Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation. He is active in caucuses such as Pro-Life, Kentucky Sportsmen's, Equine, Mountain, Aerospace/Aviation, and Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperatives.
