Biography
Thomas D. Corbin was born on January 11, 1965, in Greenville, South Carolina. He is a lifelong Greenville resident and self-identified Christian, husband, father, and small business owner. Corbin is the son of Barbee and Gail McCarty Corbin and married Leann Robertson on December 12, 1992. He has two children, William and Elliott.
Education
Corbin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Clemson University in 1987.
Political Experience
Corbin is a Republican who has built a career in public service focused on conservative principles. He first served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 17th District from 2010 to 2012. Since 2012, he has represented District 5 of the South Carolina Senate, which covers parts of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. He was elected to the Senate seat after Republican Phillip Shoopman announced he would not seek re-election.
In the Senate, Corbin currently serves on several key committees: Finance; Fish, Game and Forestry; Labor, Commerce and Industry; Medical Affairs; and Rules. He also serves on subcommittees for Natural Resources and Economic Development, Higher Education, and Retirement Systems. Previously, he held positions on the General and Judiciary committees.
As of 2018, Corbin holds a 54% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, reflecting his conservative voting record. His stated political positions include being pro-life, supporting gun rights, advocating for lower taxes, and promoting cuts to government spending. Outside of politics, Corbin owns and operates Corbin Landscaping.
