Biography
Toby Yurek, full name Thaddeus "Toby" Yurek III, is a Republican member of the Nevada State Assembly representing District 19 in parts of Clark County. Born in 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska, he moved to Henderson, Nevada in 1988 and graduated from Valley High School in 1991. Yurek began his career in law enforcement with the Henderson Police Department in 1995, rising to Lieutenant and commander of the Tactical Response Bureau over 20 years before retiring. He later focused on legal practice, aiding injured or killed police officers and firefighters, and earned a law degree from UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law in 2008. Elected in November 2022 after winning the Republican primary with 42% of the vote , he serves as Minority Whip and sits on committees including Commerce and Labor, Judiciary, and Natural Resources. Notable achievements include co-sponsoring bipartisan Assembly Bill 175 for educational reform in Clark County School District, serving as a Fourth Amendment legal instructor, Judge Pro Tempore for Henderson Municipal Court, and co-authoring a critique of Nevada's Automobile Exception.
