Biography
Tina Nakada Grandinetti is a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 20 . Born and raised on Oʻahu with Okinawan ancestry, she was elected in 2024 and focuses on housing policy, environmental protection, and economic equity.
Notable achievements include her work as a postdoctoral research fellow and housing policy analyst addressing Hawaiʻi's housing crisis through interviews with working families and those experiencing homelessness. She has been active with Oʻahu Water Protectors against Red Hill fuel leaks, serves as Vice President of Hawaiʻi Peace and Justice, and is a member of the Honolulu Tenants Union and Hui Aloha 'Āina o Honolulu.
Education and Political Experience
- Graduated from Mililani High School.
- Earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Political Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
- Obtained a Ph.D. from RMIT University’s Center for Urban Research in Australia, with doctoral research on Hawaiʻi's housing crisis.
She has taught undergraduate and early-college political science classes at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and Roosevelt High School, empowering young people in civic engagement.
