Biography
Tim Melson is a Republican state senator representing Alabama's 1st Senate District, which includes Lauderdale and Limestone counties. Born in 1960 in Alabama, he is a physician specializing in anesthesiology, clinical researcher, and farmer who has served in the Alabama State Senate since November 2014. He practices at Helen Keller Hospital in Florence, owns Shoals Medical Trials, and operates a crop farm as a hobbyist cattleman. Melson resides in Florence with his wife Lynn, married since 1980; they have three children and five grandchildren and attend Wood Avenue Church of Christ. Notable achievements include chairing the Senate Health Care Committee as of 2023 and serving on committees such as Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; Finance and Taxation; Rules; and Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development. In 2025, he announced his reelection campaign for 2026, emphasizing conservative leadership, economic development, workforce improvement, and health care access.
