Biography
Tim Longest is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. He was born in 1992 in Greenville, North Carolina, and was raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. Longest is a Presbyterian and works professionally as a lawyer. His father was a public school teacher. He is married to his spouse, Landen, having wed in 2019.
Education
Longest graduated from J.H. Rose High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. He subsequently received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2018.
Political Experience
Longest serves as the Representative for District 34 in the North Carolina House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, succeeding Jack Nichols. During the 2023-2024 session, his committee assignments included Unemployment Insurance, Marine Resources and Aquaculture, Finance, Education - Universities, Disaster Recovery and Homeland Security, and the UNC BOG Nominations Committee.
Longest was first elected on November 8, 2022, defeating Republican opponent Ashley Seshul and Libertarian opponent Kat McDonald. He received 60.27% of the vote in that election. He was re-elected on November 5, 2024, defeating Libertarian opponent Ed George with 75.8% of the vote. He is running for re-election in the general election scheduled for November 3, 2026.
