Tim Carpenter is a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing District 3 on Milwaukee's south side, a position he has held since 2002. A lifelong Milwaukee resident, he previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1984 to 2000, where he acted as Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore and chaired the Assembly Health Committee. In the Senate, he has served as Senate President Pro Tempore . Notable achievements include awards such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving Legislator of the Year, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters Conservation Champion, Wisconsin Public Health Association’s Champion of Public Health, and Wisconsin Professional Fire Fighters Legislator of the Year. He holds leadership roles on bodies like the Council on Domestic Abuse, State Fair Park Board, Transportation Projects Commission, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Board, Human Trafficking Council, and Migrant Labor Council.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Graduated from Pulaski High School; B.A. in Political Science from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; M.A. in Public Policy and Public Administration from the La Follette School of Public Affairs at University of Wisconsin-Madison; completed Milwaukee Police Department Citizen Academy .
• Early Work: Employed at Rustlers Steak House and Federal Express.
