Biography
Tiara T. Mack is a Democratic State Senator representing District 6 in Providence, Rhode Island. Born on December 21, 1993, she is the youngest Rhode Island State Senator and the first openly queer Black woman elected to the state legislature. Elected in 2020 after unseating a 30-year incumbent, she champions LGBTQ+ rights, affordable housing, reproductive healthcare, criminal justice reform, and climate justice.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Brown University in 2016.
- Professional Background: Youth Organizing Specialist at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England; formerly a low-income Black, queer educator and activist.
- Political Roles: Serves as co-chair of the Rhode Island Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian-American and Pacific Islander Caucus ; Senate Commerce Committee Secretary; member of the Senate Committee on Housing & Municipal Government and the Education Committee.
- Notable Achievements: Passed legislation expanding abortion access for Medicaid recipients and state employees, sealing eviction records, improving childhood lead safety, and establishing Juneteenth as a paid state holiday. Board member of the Women’s Health and Education Fund and Time To Advocate.
