Biography
Thuy Tran is a Democratic member of the Oregon House of Representatives, representing District 45 . Elected in 2022 with strong majorities , she assumed office in January 2023 and is now in her second term, focusing on healthcare access, public education, working families, and equity for immigrant and BIPOC communities.
Born in South Vietnam, Thuy Tran immigrated to the United States as a child and grew up in a low-income immigrant household. She has owned and operated Rose City Vision, her optometry clinic in Northeast Portland, since 1995, providing eye care to local residents. Tran serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Oregon Air National Guard, where she is Chief of Optometry for the 142nd Medical Group, overseeing clinic operations and mentoring personnel; she has participated in international missions like Pacific Angel in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. From 2012 to 2015, she served on the Parkrose School District Board. Notable achievements include chairing the House Committee on Emergency Management, General Government, and Veterans in the 2025 session; serving on committees like Judiciary, Conduct, the Joint Interstate 5 Bridge Committee, and Ways and Means Subcommittee on General Government; and co-chairing the Oregon Veterans Caucus.
