Thomas Rivera Schatz

Thomas Rivera Schatz was born on June 10, 1966, and is a Puerto Rican politician, legal advisor, attorney, and former prosecutor. He is affiliated with the New Progressive Party of Puerto Rico and the United States Republican Party. Known by his initials TRS, Rivera Schatz has represented Puerto Rico's at-large senatorial district and has held significant leadership positions within the legislative body.

Political Experience

Rivera Schatz has served as President of the Senate of Puerto Rico on three separate occasions—as the fourteenth, sixteenth, and eighteenth president. He was reelected in 2012 and secured his position again in the 2016 election with 10.33% of the at-large votes, placing him in second position among at-large candidates.

In the 2024 Puerto Rico Senate election held on November 5, 2024, Rivera Schatz ran as the incumbent at-large candidate for the New Progressive Party, receiving 100,001 votes, representing 7.9% of the at-large vote share.
