Biography
Thomas A. Pressly is a Republican state senator representing Louisiana Senate District 38, which covers portions of Caddo and DeSoto Parishes in Northwest Louisiana. Elected to the Senate in 2023, he is in his first term and serves on the Finance, Health & Welfare, and Environmental Quality committees, while acting as vice chair of the Labor committee. Prior to the Senate, he served one term in the Louisiana House of Representatives , where he sat on the Commerce, Health & Welfare, and Judiciary committees, and was a founding member of the STEM Innovation Caucus, Co-Chair of the Future Caucus, and Co-Chair of the North Louisiana Delegation. Notable achievements include recognition as the 2023 Young Professional of the Year by the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, appointment to the Louisiana State Law Institute Council in 2024, and awards from the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry as one of the Most Valuable Policymakers and from the National Federation of Independent Businesses as a Guardian of Small Business. He is known for advocating pro-growth policies, tax cuts , reducing government waste, and improving education and healthcare.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from C.E. Byrd High School ; B.S. cum laude from Texas Christian University , where he served as student body president; J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law . After law school, he clerked for U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr.
- Political Experience: Attorney specializing in commercial litigation, insurance defense, and general litigation since 2014; elected unopposed to Louisiana House in 2019; elected to Louisiana Senate District 38 in 2023, eligible through the 2032–2036 term.
