Biography
Terry Alexander is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 59 . Born on January 23, 1955, in Florence, South Carolina, he has served in this role since 2007 after 16 years on the Florence County Council, including two terms as Chairman. A businessman, pastor, education consultant, career development counselor, and adjunct professor, he is married to Starlee Davis Alexander and has two children.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. from Francis Marion University ; A.D. from Durham Business College ; M.Div. in Religion from Howard University School of Divinity ; currently pursuing a doctorate.
- Political Experience: Began as field director for Congressman Robin Tallon; Florence County Council ; South Carolina House since 2007.
- Notable Positions and Achievements: 2nd Vice Chair, House Education and Public Works Committee; serves on Regulations and Administrative Procedures Committee; Region V Chair, National Black Caucus of State Legislators ; Chaplain, SC Legislative Black Caucus Executive Committee. Involved in advocacy for NAACP, Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, opioid abuse prevention, and health policy. Managing Partner at Sunrise of the Pee Dee; former roles on Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee.
