Biography
Representative Teresa Martinez
Teresa Martinez is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing District 16. She was born and raised in Casa Grande, located in Pinal County. She is a single mother of a 19-year-old son who is in his second year of college, and the oldest of five children. Her father worked as a miner at the San Manuel Mine.
Education and Early Career
Teresa is an alumna of Casa Grande Union High School, where she later worked as a long-term substitute teacher. Before entering politics, she also worked at a Frito Lay factory in Casa Grande.
Political Experience
Martinez has an extensive background in Republican politics spanning over two decades. She has held multiple positions for two Members of Congress and for the former Republican Arizona Secretary of State. Over 20 years, she worked with candidates and political party officials to elect Republicans before transitioning to elected office.
As State Representative, her legislative priorities include protecting local businesses, developing the economy amid inflation, and attracting high-paying jobs to her district. She has focused on transportation infrastructure improvements, particularly the Interstate 10 expansion between Casa Grande and Chandler, and improvements to State Route 347 and 238 serving Maricopa.
Additional policy priorities include school choice and parental empowerment, election integrity, preservation of rural communities, Second Amendment protections, and water resources. She has sponsored legislation on topics including immigration duties and watercraft insurance provisions.
