Biography

Teresa Fedor is a Democratic politician from Ohio who served in the Ohio General Assembly for over two decades, primarily representing northwest Ohio districts including the Ohio Senate's 11th District and various House districts.

Born on May 2, 1956, in the Toledo area, Teresa Fedor grew up in a large Catholic family as the second eldest of seven children. A veteran, she served six and a half years in the U.S. Air Force and Ohio Air National Guard. Before entering politics, she worked as a teacher for 18 years, including 15 years with Toledo Public Schools. Fedor is married, a grandmother, and involved in community groups such as the AFL-CIO, American Legion, and Toledo Federation of Teachers. She resigned from the Senate on October 31, 2022, to pursue a seat on the Ohio State Board of Education for the 2nd District, covering counties like Erie, Fulton , Lucas , Ottawa, and Wood.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Toledo.
  • Political Experience: Elected to the Ohio House in 2000 for the 52nd District, serving nonconsecutive terms in districts including the 45th and 47th. Served in the Ohio Senate for the 11th District from 2003-2010 and again from 2019-2022, spanning nine General Assemblies . As a Democrat, she focused on education, veterans' services, children's health, and government transparency.

Notable achievements include championing human trafficking legislation, including a landmark bill signed into law, creating the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Commission, and chairing its Legislative and Legal Subcommittee; exposing the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation coin scandal; ensuring voting machines leave a paper trail; and holding charter schools accountable.
