Biography
Edward R. "Ted" Philips is a Democratic representative for the 8th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. A lifelong resident of Sharon, Massachusetts, he was elected in 2020, succeeding former Representative Louis Kafka after serving as his staff director. Philips won the Democratic primary in 2020 unopposed in the general election, defeated Republican Howard Terban in 2022, and was unopposed in 2024.
Notable achievements and positions: Vice Chair of the House Committee on Human Resources & Employee Engagement; serves on the Joint Committees on Community Development and Small Businesses, Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, Municipalities and Regional Government, and Veterans and Federal Affairs.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Sharon High School; Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; Master's degree in Public Administration from the Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University.
- Political Experience: Joined the Finance Committee for the town of Sharon after college; worked for State Senator Stephen Brewer in 2006; served as legislative aide, Committee Director, and Staff Director for State Representative Louis Kafka from 2007 to 2020; ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for the Bristol and Norfolk State Senate district in 2017; sworn into the House on January 6, 2021.
