Biography

Representative Ted Hill

Ted Hill, also known as Edward H. Hill, is a Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives representing the 14A district, which covers Gem County and parts of Ada County.

Ted Hill is a native of Boise, Idaho. A significant personal tragedy shaped his commitment to public service—his daughter died in a car accident on an Idaho highway approximately 14 years ago. In response, Hill channeled his grief into policy action, spearheading efforts to improve the intersection where the accident occurred. This tragedy redirected his focus toward shaping policy and serving his community.

Hill currently resides in Eagle, Idaho, a conservative area in the Treasure Valley. He works as a contract adversary fighter pilot supporting naval aviator training and as an international pilot for United Airlines.

Education

Hill earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Boise State University and a Master's degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University.

Political Experience

Hill's political career began with two unsuccessful bids for District 14 House Senate in 2018 and 2020. He won his first term representing District 14A in 2022 and was re-elected unopposed in 2024, receiving 26,769 votes in the general election.

As a state representative, Hill has focused on education and cultural policy issues. In 2024, he sponsored House Bill 538, which prohibits public school employees from using a student's preferred pronouns if they do not match the student's birth sex without parental consent. He has also sponsored legislation to restrict transgender bathroom access in Idaho by allowing private businesses and government entities to be sued if their restrooms are not separated by biological sex.

Military Background

Hill served in the U.S. Navy for 38 years, beginning in 1984. During his military career, he served as a fighter pilot, squadron commander, and Airwing deputy commander. He also accumulated over a decade of experience in the Department of Defense before retiring in April 2022.
