Biography
Tavia Galonski
Tavia Galonski is an American politician and legal professional from Ohio. Born on March 10, 1966, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she is married to Summit County Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Galonski and has two adult children, Antonia and Gabriella. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is the first Black person to lead a countywide charter office in Summit County.
Education
Galonski earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Emory University in Atlanta. She then attended the University of Akron School of Law, which she completed in 1995 while working full time as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. After graduating, she was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio.
Political Experience
Galonski served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023, representing the 33rd House District, which included portions of Akron and Barberton in Summit County. During her tenure, she served as the ranking member of the House Civil Justice Committee and held the position of Minority Assistant Whip.
Before her legislative service, Galonski worked as an attorney with Community Legal Aid, assisting victims of domestic abuse. She also served as a magistrate in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas for over 15 years, including work in the county's juvenile court.
In January 2024, Galonski resigned from the Ohio House after being appointed as Summit County Clerk of Courts. In this role, she has prioritized transparency, justice, efficiency, and community engagement. Notable initiatives include hosting annual expungement clinics with the Summit County Prosecutor's office and launching a pending civil filings website that allows public access to electronic filings. She serves as the District 8 Chair of the Ohio Clerk of Courts Association.
