Education
Reeves is a graduate of Florence High School and an honors graduate of Millsaps College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics.
Political Experience
Reeves began his political career in 2003 when he was elected State Treasurer at age 29, making him the youngest state treasurer in the nation and the first Republican to hold the office in Mississippi. His background in banking and investment management made him an advocate for balancing the state budget while minimizing state debt. During his tenure as treasurer, he worked closely with Governor Haley Barbour to maintain Mississippi's financial stability following Hurricane Katrina.
In 2011, Reeves was elected Lieutenant Governor, a position he held for two terms while serving as President of the Mississippi State Senate. During this period, he helped fill the state's Rainy Day Fund to over $550 million—the most in state history—and championed transparency in government spending.
As Governor since 2020, Reeves has focused on conservative fiscal management and education reform. He proposed and passed the Taxpayer Pay Raise Act in 2016, which represented the largest tax cut in Mississippi history. The legislation lowered personal income tax, increased deductions for self-employed Mississippians, and eliminated the corporate franchise tax. His administration has prioritized increasing the number of nationally board-certified teachers per capita in Mississippi and improving educational opportunity throughout the state.
