Biography
Tarah Dorothea Probst is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 189th District since 2023. A lifelong resident of northeast Pennsylvania, born and raised in East Stroudsburg, she was first elected in 2022 with 56% of the vote, defeating Republican Steve Ertle, and re-elected to a second term in 2024 with a 15% margin. She previously made history as the first female mayor of Stroudsburg , where she drove economic growth, community development, and regional collaboration. Probst co-owned a downtown restaurant with her husband, worked in business marketing, and served as a regional outreach coordinator at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. Notable achievements include national recognition as one of 20 elected officials selected for The Champions Institute/Smart Growth for community improvement efforts. In the House, she serves on committees including Education, State Government, Local Government , Housing & Community Development, Tourism Recreation & Economic Development, and Intergovernmental Affairs & Operations. Her priorities encompass fair school funding, affordable healthcare, environmental protection, women's rights, and reducing government bureaucracy.
