Tara A. Durant is a Republican state senator representing District 27 in the Virginia Senate, which includes all of Fredericksburg City and parts of Spotsylvania County and Stafford County. Born on October 26, 1972, in Des Moines, Iowa, she is an educator by occupation, married to Edward C. Durant , with whom she has three children: Lindsay, Teddy, and Coco. A Catholic and mother of three, she is a Marine wife known for conservative leadership, partnering with Governor Glenn Youngkin on tax cuts, family protections, economic growth, and public safety initiatives. She serves on key commissions including the Autism Advisory Council, Behavioral Health Commission, Rappahannock River Basin Commission, and Board of Veterans Services.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: B.A. in Political Science and Communication from Coe College.
• Political Experience: Served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2022–2024; elected to the Virginia Senate in 2024, currently representing District 27 from her office in Room 505 of the General Assembly Building in Richmond.
