Biography
Tangie Herring is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives serving District 145, which includes parts of Bibb and Monroe counties. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, she is a lifelong classroom teacher with over 28 years of experience in public schools, a small business owner, and advocate for neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, educational equity, community safety, economic development, and low taxes. She is married to Wallace Herring and has one daughter, Zion.
Education and Political Experience
Herring holds a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia College, a Master’s degree from Mercer University, and a Specialist degree from Georgia State University. Elected in 2024 after winning the Democratic primary runoff against Juawn Jackson and the general election against Republican Noah Redding Arbuck, she previously taught in Atlanta Public Schools. Notable positions include crossing party lines in 2025 to support bills banning transgender female students from girls’ sports, removing gender references from state code, and prohibiting gender-affirming care in state prisons.
