Sylvia Ortiz-Velez is a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly representing the 8th District. Born and raised on the south side of Milwaukee, she serves her second term after being elected in 2020. A graduate of Bay View High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to the legislature, she worked as a real estate broker and served on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. She currently holds positions on the Assembly Committees on Housing and Real Estate, Judiciary, Transportation, and Veterans and Military Affairs, and serves as Ranking Member of the Consumer Protection Committee.
