Biography

Sydney Lynn Carlin is a Democrat representing Kansas House District 66 . She has served as a state representative since January 2003, currently in her eleventh term, and resides in Manhattan with four children; her spouse, John E. Carlin, passed away in 2015. Raised on a family farm in southeast Kansas, she began political activism in 1988 opposing a jail near schools, served on the Manhattan City Commission and as mayor , and won her House seat in 2002 after an earlier loss.

Notable achievements include bipartisan work on balanced tax policy, business climate, K-12 and higher education funding , arts/human rights/highway support, Military Bill of Rights, and educational opportunities for military families. She authored over a dozen laws, such as the False Claims Against the State Act, eminent domain restrictions, autism therapy insurance coverage, minor credit report freezes, military tuition bills, and revenge pornography legislation.
