Biography
Suzanne Geist
Suzanne Geist was born on November 21, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri. She is an American politician who served as a member of the Nebraska State Legislature representing the 25th district from 2017 until her resignation in 2023.
Education
Geist graduated from Pine Bluff High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1980. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and broadcasting in 1984.
Political Experience
Legislative Service
Geist was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020. She represented the 25th Nebraska legislative district, which encompasses the northeast quarter of Lancaster County, including the city of Waverly and the eastern portions of Lincoln.
Notable Legislative Work
During her tenure in the state legislature, Geist focused on legislation related to abortion policy. She sponsored Nebraska's "dismemberment abortion" ban in the 2020 legislative session and prioritized its passage. In 2022, she co-sponsored a bill to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest, and sponsored legislation to restrict medical abortion, including prohibiting mail delivery and establishing misdemeanor criminal offenses for doctors violating the provisions. Neither of these bills passed.
Mayoral Campaign
In 2023, Geist was a candidate in the Lincoln mayoral election. She resigned from the state legislature the day after the primary election to focus on the mayor's race. She lost the general election on May 2, 2023.
