Biography
Susan Plasencia
Susan Plasencia is a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 37, which encompasses Seminole County and portions of Orange County. Born in Los Angeles, California, she relocated to Florida in 1971. She is a small business owner and mother of three, serving as President of her family's business, which organizes specialized events including public music festivals and concerts with attendance ranging from 2,000 to 100,000 people. The daughter of a Cuban immigrant father and Puerto Rican mother, Plasencia is also the sister of State Representative Rene Plasencia.
Education
Plasencia attended Scott Lake Elementary, St. Paul Lutheran School, and Lakeland Highlands Junior High School before graduating from Kathleen High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University and a Master's degree from the University of South Florida.
Political Experience
Plasencia was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2022 and was re-elected in 2024, defeating Democratic nominee Nate Douglas. During her first term, she secured $38.5 million in district appropriations and passed nine bills, including significant tort reform legislation for small business insurance relief.
In the 2025 legislative session, Plasencia sponsored House Bill 351, commonly referred to as the "Super Speeder" bill, which proposed enhanced penalties for drivers convicted of excessive speeding.
Beyond her legislative work, Plasencia has been active in her community, serving as President of her homeowners association, volunteering at a downtown women's shelter soup kitchen, and working with organizations serving at-risk families. She currently serves as President of the Orlando Republican Women Federated, the oldest Republican women's organization in Florida, founded in 1924.
