Biography

Susan Manchester

Senator Susan Manchester represents Ohio Senate District 12, which includes all of Allen, Auglaize, Champaign, Mercer, and Shelby counties, as well as portions of Darke and Logan counties. She is currently serving her first term in the Ohio Senate.

Susan Manchester was born on June 22, 1987, in Lima, Ohio. She grew up on a family farm in Waynesfield, Ohio, and currently resides in her hometown with her husband Isaac.

Manchester has been deeply involved in her community through various organizations. She serves as a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau and participates in local church activities as a worship team leader and missions team member at New Hampshire Community Church.

Education

Manchester graduated from The Ohio State University in 2010 with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Political Science. She later earned a Master of Professional Studies in Political Management from The George Washington University .

Political Experience

Legislative Service:

Manchester was first elected to the General Assembly in 2018 and served three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 84th District. In the House, she chaired the House Families, Aging, and Human Services Committee and served as Co-Vice Chair of the Ohio Legislative Children Caucus.

Prior Experience:

Before entering electoral politics, Manchester worked in Washington, D.C., for Congressman Jim Jordan as a Legislative Assistant, focusing on agriculture, health care, business, and education policy. She also worked briefly in the office of Congressman Raul Labrador in 2015.

Notable Achievements:

Manchester has championed several pieces of legislation that became law:

  • Established the Ohio Youth and Family Ombudsman Office through the Department of Jobs and Family Services to provide oversight and accountability for Ohio's children
  • Created the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit Program to support the next generation of farmers
  • Worked to criminalize the use or manipulation of controlled substance addiction as a method of human trafficking

Current Committee Positions:

Manchester currently serves as Chair of Government Oversight and Reform and holds membership on the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Energy, Finance, Health, Public Utilities committees, as well as the Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee.

Recognition:

She has received numerous awards, including The Ohio Children's Alliance Champion for Children, the 2022 PCSAO Legislator of the Year Award, and selection as one of the Council of State Governments 20 under 40.
