Biography
Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox is a Democratic State Senator representing District 22 in the Connecticut General Assembly, which includes Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe. She serves as Deputy Majority Leader and is noted as the first Indian-American state senator in Connecticut. Her tenure began in 2025 and extends through 2027. Notable achievements include her unanimous confirmation by the Connecticut General Assembly as a Commissioner on the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities , appointed by Governor Ned Lamont. She has organized human rights workshops at the United Nations and Oxford University and is involved with organizations such as the Rotary Club of Trumbull, Lakewood/Trumbull YMCA Board, League of Women Voters, and Oxford Consortium for Human Rights.
Education and Political Experience
Gadkar-Wilcox is an associate professor of constitutional and human rights law at Quinnipiac University and previously served as executive director of a human rights education program, as well as director of a juvenile delinquency prevention program. In the Senate, she chairs the Government Oversight Committee, Regulations Review Committee, and a Select Committee on Special Education, while serving as Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee and the Higher Education and Employment Committee. She has worked with students on community action planning initiatives.
