Biography
J. Stuart Adams is a Republican senator representing District 7 in the Utah State Senate, where he serves as Senate President since 2018. A fifth-generation Layton resident, he owns Terra Strata , a real estate, construction, and development firm, and was named Builder of the Year by the Northern Wasatch Home Builders Association. He resides in Layton with his wife, Susan; they raised four daughters and are grandparents to 16 grandchildren. Notable achievements include chairing the Military Installation Development Authority , formerly chairing the Utah State Transportation Commission, sponsoring the "fairness-for-all" antidiscrimination law protecting religious and LGBTQ rights , cutting taxes by $1.1 billion, securing record education funding, and advancing policies on affordable energy, clean air, transportation, water infrastructure, affordable housing, and mental health protections. He received awards such as 2004 Legislator of the Year from the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and International Code Council, and Representative of the Year from Davis County Republican Women.
Education
Adams graduated from Layton High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Finance from the University of Utah.
