Biography
Steven Jack Rudy is a Republican State Representative from Kentucky who was born on August 9, 1978. He represents the 1st House District, which encompasses Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton, and Hickman counties, as well as a portion of McCracken County. His home city is Paducah, Kentucky, where he resides with his family.
Rudy is a Methodist and comes from a rural background that has shaped his conservative values. He is a part owner of Rudy's Farm Center, a family agribusiness that serves Ballard County and neighboring communities.
Education
Rudy graduated from Ballard Memorial High School. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Murray State University, where he majored in agriculture education.
Political Experience
Rudy was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2004 and has served continuously since then. He currently holds the position of House Majority Floor Leader, a key role in which he sets the legislative agenda for the Kentucky House of Representatives and determines which bills are considered.
Previously, Rudy chaired the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, which oversees state budget creation and tax policy. Among his legislative accomplishments, he authored the 2018 state budget, which fully funded public pensions for the first time in nearly two decades while also increasing per pupil public education spending to record levels. He also sponsored comprehensive tax reform legislation that improved Kentucky's national tax competitiveness ranking from 33rd to 23rd in its first year.
Rudy prioritizes conservative legislative initiatives, including protections for the unborn, Second Amendment rights, gun control opposition, school safety, pension system funding, fiscal responsibility, and limiting executive power.
