Biography
Steven Jackson is a Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing District 2, which covers parts of Shreveport in Caddo Parish and Bossier Parish. Elected in a 2023 nonpartisan primary with 51% of the vote, he assumed office in January 2024, succeeding Rep. Sam Jenkins, and is eligible to serve through 2032. Before entering the state legislature, he served two terms on the Caddo Parish Commission, where he secured over $50 million in funding from the Louisiana Housing Corporation for housing development, rehabilitation, affordable housing, youth employment, senior services, and veteran support; he also led COVID-19 outreach efforts. In the House, he serves on the committees of Health and Welfare, Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs, Transportation, Highways and Public Works, Ways and Means, and the Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay; he is a member of the Democratic Caucus and Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus. Notable achievements include authoring legislation for the Grambling State University World Famed Tiger Marching Band Prestige License Plate, creating the I-20 Economic Development District in Shreveport, renaming Highway 133 after the late Congressman Luke Letlow, and supporting bipartisan changes to public library director requirements by voting for House Bill 974.
