Steven G. Xiarhos is a Republican member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 5th Barnstable district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 6, 2021, and currently serves as ranking member of the State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Joint Committee and the Veterans and Federal Affairs Joint Committee. A retired law enforcement officer, he worked as a police officer in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, from 1979 to 2019, retiring as deputy chief after roles including school resource officer, detective, and patrol sergeant. Born and raised in New Bedford as the grandson of Greek immigrants and son/grandson of U.S. military veterans, he supports veterans' causes through boards like the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund and volunteering with the Wounded Warrior Project.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduate of Anna Maria College, Northeastern University, and Cape Cod Community College ; completed Babson College Command Training Course and FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.
  • Political Experience: Serves as State Representative for 5th Barnstable ; first elected 2020.
  • Notable Achievements: Recipient of 22 police awards, including Officer of the Year, Yarmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year, Rotary Club Vocational Service Award, Mothers Against Drunk Driving Officer of the Year, and Barnstable County Human Rights Commission Rosenthal Award.
