Steve Womack

Stephen Allen Womack is a native of Russellville, Arkansas, born in 1957. He is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Arkansas's 3rd congressional district since 2011. Womack began his public service career in local government before transitioning to national politics as part of the Tea Party movement wave in 2010.

Before his election to Congress, Womack served as Mayor of Rogers, Arkansas from 1998 to 2010, a position he held for twelve years. During his tenure, the city experienced significant economic growth, adding $1 billion in new development with major improvements to infrastructure, retail services, and quality of life amenities. He also served on numerous boards and commissions in Northwest Arkansas, including as Chairman of the Northwest Regional Planning Commission and Rogers United Way.

Education

Womack graduated from Russellville High School in 1975. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Arkansas Tech University in 1979, where he was later inducted into the university's Hall of Distinction as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2014.

Political Experience

After his election to Congress in 2010, Womack quickly established himself within House leadership. He is currently a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, serving as Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee and sitting on the Defense and Financial Services and General Government subcommittees. He previously served as Chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Speaker Paul Ryan selected Womack to lead the 2018 bipartisan, bicameral Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform. In 2016, he presided over the Republican National Convention during the contentious rules vote. Womack is widely recognized for maintaining one of the longest consecutive voting streaks in the House, casting his 8,823rd consecutive vote in 2025. He has been consistently re-elected to his seat with strong margins, never receiving less than 64 percent of the vote in general elections.

Military Service

Womack was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Arkansas Army National Guard upon graduating from Arkansas Tech University in 1979. He served in various command and staff assignments throughout his military career, including command of 2nd Battalion, 153rd Infantry, 39th Separate Infantry Brigade.
