Biography
Steve Santarsiero is a Democratic State Senator representing Pennsylvania's 10th Senatorial District . Elected in November 2018 and sworn in on January 1, 2019, he serves on the Appropriations, Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, Environmental Resources & Energy, and Intergovernmental Operations committees, and is the Minority Chair of the Judiciary Committee. He also holds the position of Democratic Caucus Secretary. A leading advocate for the environment, education, infrastructure investment, women's health issues, and gun violence prevention, Santarsiero began his public service as a township supervisor in Lower Makefield in 2003, following grassroots efforts to preserve open space. From 2008 to 2016, he represented the 31st District in the Pennsylvania House as the first Democrat to hold the seat, where he championed government transparency reforms, refused legislative perks, and forfeited pay during budget impasses in 2009 and 2015-16. In 2017, Attorney General Josh Shapiro appointed him Pennsylvania's first Chief Deputy Attorney General for Environmental Protection, overseeing environmental crime prosecutions and opposing federal rollbacks. Notable achievements include improving PECO's electric grid resiliency to reduce outages, lobbying New Jersey to protect Bucks County jobs, and authoring House rules separating politics from government service. He is of counsel at CGBAG Law, with expertise in commercial litigation, land use, and environmental matters.
